| There's a time during the day, usually in the early evening at twilight when the newscasts are done, and there is nothing of import or interest to watch on the T.V. when that dreaded wooly-headed monster rears itself up and smashes its hoary mien down on the hapless actor.?The monster's name is "introspection" and it is a bloody and merciless beast of prey.As the actor crawls out from beneath its paws, shaking from multiple cuts and dripping blood and gore across the wooden living room floor, a merciless roar splits the eardrums as it gleefully thunders out "a-HA!Thought I was gone, didn't you?"And the actor can only drag himself slowly to the lazy-boy chair, one leg completely broken and useless, as he awaits his fate.The gigantic ghoul, momentarily sated,?sits directly on the floor,?his bloodshot black eyes boring into the actor's skull,?preparing for the torturous evening he richly anticipated.And the actor, his senses all dulled, can only sit there, stunned and helpless, as this mental predator begins to speak.Its melodic tones, a surprising counterpoint to its demeanour,?rattles?the dishes with a rumbling bass......?"well now.?If only you knew when you were younger what you know now.?How different things would be."It's not a question.It's a statement of fact.?The actor knows this.?Oh yes, this torture is not new at all.If only.....If the actor knew then what he knows now....?- he wouldn't?have spent those years trying to fix what she alone needed to work out.?- he would have followed his instincts and trusted himself a lot more- he would have been immune to internet, and TV and newspapers ads all bragging about their sales- he would therefore have had a lot more money- he would have travelled to far off countries, and indulged his curiosities- he would have spent the time to get to know himself and what he really wanted out of life; and yet -- he would have understood what it means to "live in the moment" a lot more.?And he would have done so.- he wouldn't have spent years - literally years - ?wishing the year was over.- he would likely have still been in school, once again indulging his curiosity- he would have partied more; experimented more; LIVED more- he wouldn't have spent one single stupid fucked-up moment thinking "well I can't do that - what will people think of me?"And the monster watches, as these thoughts go flitting through the actor's head, nodding and smiling its evil grin, acid saliva tripping to the floor with a loud hiss.Occasionally, when these evenings occur, the actor will shake his head, and then look at the monster.?The actor will draw strength from that deep well of experience, and, drawing out his mental .45, pointing it directly at the intelligent beast.The beast, not expecting this,?at that moment?becomes the prey.??It looks and listens as the actor speaks."Yes.?Those things are true.? |
| Those things are true.?Equally true though:- I can't change the past.?It's a waste of energy to think about it.- I can change what I do now.- I can still visit those far away places.?There's nothing stopping me.- even if I had all of that knowledge back then, and things were different, there are so many things that I don't control.?Can't control.?Like illness.?Like the death of a loved one.?Like the world economy.?- I had much less knowledge and wisdom back then yet - I loved, and was loved.- I love now and will love in the future.- my future isn't set in stone.?To the limit of my health and ability, I will make what I can of it.- I will sing- I will write- I will enjoy people- and I will entertain you lessOn occasion, the actor will fire his gun, and the bullet?- with the word "choice" engraved in small letters in its casing - will rocket out into the hide of the beast, who will fall dead, only to dissipate into the air, as if he didn't exist.Not to worry though.?Another beast will be along shortly......**********************So tell me:?what does your monster like to talk about? |
